We believe music is more than just a hobby – it’s a therapy, a necessary education. We currently have teachers from the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts (SAPA), a music institute founded by violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam and vocalist Kavita Krishnamurti, teaching classical music to children at all our centres. We are also working with SPIC MACAY - a non-political nationwide voluntary movement that organises programmes of classical music and dance, folk arts, crafts, yoga, classic cinema screenings, heritage walks, - at our Centres to make students more aware about Indian and world heritage.
We recognize the tremendous talent that our children have in expressing themselves through various visual art forms. Right from kindergarten, children begin art classes with unlimited expression, given direction under the caring guidance of our experienced, award-winning art teachers across our centres. We constantly take our children to several art galleries in the city and a lot of our children’s works have been exhibited in eminent galleries in India and several cities across the world, including New York and San Francisco.
All of our children’s artworks are shared with psychologists for analysis and diagnosis – a practice that has allowed us to understand our children and their minds better.
Children from marginalised families are not exposed to different mediums, with minimum or complete lack of exposure to refined aesthetics. But at Parikrma, we have changed all that. Today, with support from several renowned dance institutes, like Attakalari, and the Lewis Ballet Foundation our children have transformed on stage, dancing and channelling emotions into their movement and expression.
